After the major letdown of MTVu, hope for awards that recognize quality independent music springs eternal. First there was The New Pantheon, now we have the PLUG Independent Music Awards.
Created in 2001, PLUG is:
"A collection of music lovers - writers, DJs, webmasters, bloggers, artists, filmmakers, managers, indie retailers, and most importantly fans - who gather together each year to celebrate the artists who live and flourish in the margins."
Last year's winners included: Interpol, Arcade Fire, Tom Waits and TV on the Radio. Promising results, and this year it gets even better: PLUG is letting everyone in on the voting. Cast your ballot here.
Oh, and there's a category for Music Website of the Year as well, with nominees including Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, Pitchfork and others. Let's start the 2007 Sonic Slang campaign now! Buttons and flyers available on request.
