Foxboro Hot Tubs Kicks Off First-Ever Tour

Green Day's not-so-secret side project, Foxboro Hot Tubs, is hitting the road for a handful of dates beginning next Monday.  As reported last December, the garage rockin-leaning trio released a six-song EP, Stop Drop and Roll, via the band's website.  Now a physical release is expected May 20, after which we expect work will resume on Green Day's long-awaited follow up to American Idiot.

Geffen Moves Up Weezer's Red Album Release

The release date for Weezer's Red Album has been moved up from June 24 to June 3.  Hmm...After last week's leak-a-thon, is this a move to capitalize on positive buzz, or last minute damage control to keep sales from flagging?

Stream Death Cab and We Are Scientists at Spinner

There's a double-dip of SS favorites over at Spinner this week.  Check out full-album streams from Death Cab for Cutie, who's Narrow Stairs LP is getting some early critical praise for often straying from the band's tried-and-true pop formula, and We Are Scientists' sophomore LP, the awesomely-titled Brain Thrust Mastery.

So far we're diggin' 'em both.  Give a listen and let us know what you think.

Arcade Fire to Score Next Richard Kelly Flick

Even after the debacle that was Southland Tales, we're still curious to see what Richard Kelly does with The Box.  Check out IMDB's summary: "A small wooden box arrives on the doorstep of a married couple, who open it and become instantly wealthy. Little do they realize that opening the box also kills someone they do not know."

The script is inspired by a Twilight Zone episode from the 80s, and though for some reason Kelly cast Cameron freakin' Diaz in the lead (maybe it was the less than $1 million gross for Southland), we now have at least one really good reason to check it out - even if the director turns out to be a one-hit-wonder.  Arcade Fire has signed on to score the soundtrack.

The band hasn't confirmed yet, but if it's true, Kelly just bought himself a few cool points from the blogosphere.  Now just keep Stifler and The Rock out of this one, and you might be onto something...

Add Whitesnake to the Zeppelin Reunion Mix

Add another act to the Led Zeppelin rumor tour rumor mill.  David Coverdale, Whitesnake frontman and former Jimmy Page collaborator, is apparently expecting a call any day now. 

If you're counting, that's the fifth band so far vying "least important opening act" of all time.  Though to be fair, between his band, Stone Temple Pilots, The Cult, Velvet Revolver and Foo Fighters, Whitesnake should bring out the most 40+ groupies. 

My Morning Jacket on SNL

We missed My Morning Jacket's performance on Saturday Night Live this weekend, but after checking out this "Evil Urges" clip, it's become clear that Jim James' transformation into the Prince of country rock is now complete.  Dig that falsetto!  Keep your fingers crossed for a live cover of "Kiss."

The last time we mention Ryan Adams' blog going offline. Maybe.

Something tells us that this nonsensical, probably totally out of the blue goodbye might actually be the end for Foggy.

But yeah, prolly not. 

Gnarls Barkley - "Going On"

Gnarls Barkley's The Odd Couple, after months of blogger hype, sort of came and went.  It's a shame really.  Though it might not contain as many obvious singles as St. Elsewhere, the more introspective follow up shows off a soulful, often melancholy side of Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse that, while rooted in the 1960s, is as oddly contemporary as anything you're likely to hear this year.

"Going On" is another of the few party tunes on The Odd Couple, likely chosen in an attempt to boost so-so sales.  The bait-and-switch might piss off a few teenagers looking for an album's worth of "Hey Ya!," but so be it - These guys deserve the spins.

Arctic Monkeys Evolve with The Last Shadow Puppets

We have been quite consistent over the years in our dismissal of The Arctic Monkeys and their over-sold brand of frenzied post-punk.  So you can imagine our surprise upon listening to Monkey-man Alex Turner's side project, The Last Shadow Puppets, and discovering a surprisingly well conceived baroque pop disc in The Age of the Understatement. 

Brimming with swinging cinematic romance, and a sexy London feel, we really and truly hope Turner does in fact quit his day job.
