The Modern Age (always a good read) not withstanding, blogging about The Strokes isn't as cool as it once was. Good thing Albert Hammond Jr. is picking up the slack. While First Impressions of Earth might have alienated the remnants of the now 30-something hipsterati circle that made his band the blogosphere's first true "it" band, Hammond the solo artist is now 2-for-2 with his Como te Llama.
Once again embracing the poppier side of his day job's sound, Hammond's new set doesn't have a single as standout as "101," but it makes for great sunny day listening by keeping things light with Reggae-infused tracks like "Borrowed Time" and gentle instrumentals like "Spooky Couch." It likely won't set the web on fire like Is This It?, but here's hoping at least some of this style makes it into the equation on that inevitable Strokes "return to form" disc.
