M83 Set to Open for Kings of Leon

As if we needed further proof that Kings of Leon has forsaken its Southern roots for a new wave sheen and stadium tours, the band has tapped M83 to open on its December tour.  Mullet dudes, shoegazers and hipsters together under one roof - Should be quite a scene. [via Paste]

New Voters Turn Out for Springsteen Gig

Bruce Springsteen's acoustic set in Philly this Saturday, the first of four Obama-supporting gigs, reportedly inspired 21,000 new voter registrations.  Not quite bringing down the Berlin Wall, but that ain't too shabby.  From his opening speech at the Ben Franklin Parkway:

“So now is the time to stand with Barack Obama and Joe Biden, roll up our sleeves, and come on up for the rising.”

Springsteen Adds More Obama Gigs

Bruce Springsteen's previously noted two Obama gigs has ballooned to four shows - three acoustic sets and one double-bill at Change Rocks in NYC.  If this keeps up, by next week The Boss might just be strolling through parking lots, pinning Vote for Change fliers under our wipers.

Springsteen Tapped for Two Obama Events

While a rumored appearance at the Democratic National Convention never materialized, Bruce Springsteen is making up for lost time by committing to not one, but two Obama events in the coming weeks.

This weekend The Boss will hit a Philadelphia rally for an acoustic set (get your free tickets here), then will headline (with Billy Joel, meh) the Change Rocks festival in NYC at the Hammerstein Ballroom on 10/16. 

The Hold Steady Reveals Cause of UK Tour Cancellation

The Hold Steady, who this week disappointed thousands of drunken, bearded hipsters with the mysterious cancellation of its Fall UK tour, today revealed that guitarist Tad Kubler is suffering from pancreatitis, a serious, but hopefully short-term affliction. The band hopes to announce new dates shortly.

Ryan Adams Adds New Dates with Oasis

If you're disappointed that the chummier-than-expected Oasis/Ryan Adams double-bill never made it to NYC, take heart - A second round of dates have been added for December that include stops at MSG, and the Susquehanna Center in Camden, NJ.  Now, if the Gallaghers can keep from getting cold-cocked in the meantime, everything should be cool.

Springsteen Confirmed for Super Bowl Gig

Confirming a rumor that's been circulating since mid-August, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will play this year's Super Bowl halftime show in Tampa, FL.  So, other than, I dunno, Little Steve losing his headband, this year's show should be free of "wardrobe malfunctions."  Political statements, on the other hand...We'll just have to see if Bruce can resist.

Ben Folds Five Reunites for MySpace Gig

Ben Folds, who will release his latest solo album Way to Normal on 9.30, is reuniting with his former band mates as Ben Folds Five for the first time in nearly a decade for a 9.18 gig.

The concert, set to be streamed live from Chapel Hill, N.C. via MySpace, will feature a performance of the group's 1999 album The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner, with proceeds to benefit Operation Smile: Changing Lives One Smile at a Time.

Springsteen to Close Out Yankee Stadium?

Rumor has it the Steinbrenners are mulling plans for a going-out-of-business blowout at Yankee Stadium, featuring a performance by either Bruce Springsteen or Paul McCartney.  Since it seems unlikely we'd say goodbye to an American landmark with a performance by a British artist, my money is on The Boss.  Following recent reports of a Super Bowl gig for the E Street Band, lets hope the Knicks don't get any ideas...

Death Cab, Wilco to Open for Neil Young

So it turns out that Neil Young look Ben Gibbard has been sporting might not have been a coincidence.  Today it was announced that Death Cab for Cutie and Wilco (who, according to Billboard, are gearing up for an early-'09 LP)) will take turns opening for Young on a October-December tour.  See the full list of dates after the jump.
