Tonight I'm hittin' the sack to Slacker's "Alternative Chill" ("Easy Listening for Hipsters" - hah!) station.  I'm typically not a big Internet radio junkie, but these guys are making me a believer.  Check out their DJs' mixtape mastery for yourself.

Muxtape Taken Offline

Coming on the heels of Pandora alleged financial woes, online music start-up MuxTape has shut down its website, citing a "problem" with the RIAA.

It's hard to believe that among all the streaming music services to come down the pike in recent years, Pandora would be one of the ones facing extinction (especially considering its popularity boom as an iPhone app), but last year's web royalty hike apparently has the company on the chopping block.

It can be a lot of work making sure your co-workers are aware of your blogger-weened music tastes - loaning out your Animal Collective-stocked iPod to that cute intern, working Pitchfork's latest Portishead review into conversation by the water-cooler - But now Radiohead has taken all the leg work out of being pretentious. 

Just download the band's new screensaver for laser video "House of Cards," and be sure to let that computer idle.  You're too cool for work anyway!

The Secret World of Sam King

Social network Bebo today debuted "The Secret World of Sam King," an original program produced in partnership with Universal Records UK.  The acting it pretty iffy, and Sam is a lazy wise-ass ("Oh no! I have to go deliver these flowers to a smokin' hot girl and go shopping for music?  The horror!" What are you, 18?  Tell your sob story to the 35-year-old dude stocking shelves at Safeway.  See how far you get.)  But if you're a college freshman who thinks working at a record company would be, like, the coolest thing ever - this is your (web) show. 

Upcoming episodes will feature lots of cockney accents, cool/semi-fake jobs like "podcasters" and "music bloggers" plus appearances from artists including Sugababes, The Automatic, Sam Sparro,  and The Saturdays.

Hurl Some "Pork and Beans" with Weezer and Help Fight Hunger

Using the buzz around new single "Pork and Beans," Weezer, music-focus social network Buzznet and Conscious Alliance, the non-profit organization that distributes food and resources to U.S. communities most in need, have joined forces to stage an online foodfight that calls for Buzznet users to throw pork and beans at their friend's profiles by posting a special code in the notes section.  Friends can then retaliate, things get messiy and we all do some good.
