Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks - "Baltimore"

Even though it might get our blogger press credentials revoke, we must admit that Pavement never really did it for us.  Maybe it was the sometimes-forced goofiness on the later albums, or the too-often out of key yelling that passed for singing, but it just felt like Stephen Malkmus consciously chose to avoid the perfect pop/rock melodies we both knew he had in him.  That pissed us off.  But that only made us all the more surprised when his new tune with The Jicks, "Baltimore," came our way.

A little slow to get going, the song builds over 6-and-a-half minutes into a fuzzy rocker with a jammed-out guitar solo to finish things off.  It's at least got us curious for the upcoming full-length, Real Emotional Trash, but that Pavement stuff still gets on our nerves.  Don't tell the fellas.
